Help Stop Overdoses: naloxone kits at no cost

Posted on: July 17, 2018

Nasal naloxone (also known as Narcan®) is available for anyone who wants to prevent an opioid overdose death of a loved one or someone you know. Pick up a naloxone kit at no cost and receive opioid death prevention education at Lorain County Public Health (LCPH), 9880 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH, available weekdays (excluding holidays) between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. For an evening appointment call 440-322-6367. Allow 20 minutes for your visit in order to receive education and the Narcan kit.

“Narcan can save lives - and provide a second chance and an opportunity for recovery,” said David Covell, MPH, RS, health commissioner at LCPH. “Narcan provides a safety net for both those battling opioid addiction as well as those taking high doses of opioid pain medication.”
Naloxone is a medication that can reverse an overdose caused by an opioid drug. When given, naloxone restores breathing and blocks the drug’s effects on the brain-- it often prevents death.
These naloxone kits are provided through Project DAWN, an overdose education and naloxone distribution program through the Ohio Department of Health. For more information on Project DAWN, visit ODH.Ohio.gov.
