Blood pressure help for Lorain County residents 55+

Confused about your blood pressure? In February, public health nurses from the Lorain County General Health District are coming to a location near you to provide blood pressure screenings and to explain how to get your own blood pressure cuff at no cost. The nurses can also answer your health questions.

February's wellness checks are at 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 2:00 PM at the following locations:

Wellington Fire Station #2, 202 Kelly St., Wellington on February 2nd and 16th
Old Stone Church, 553 South Main St., Amherst on February 3rd and 17th
Neighborhood House (Senior Center), 90 East College St., Oberlin on February 6th and 27th
Sugar Ridge Baptist Church, 36600 Sugar Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville on February 8th
Sheffield Township Church of Christ, 5075 Toledo Rd., Lorain on February 1st
Sheffield Lake Community Center, 4575 East Lake Rd. (9:00 and 11:00 AM sessions only) on February 7th
Avon Senior Center, 36786 Detroit Rd., Avon on February 10th and 24th

Cure cabin fever

Winter can make people feel antsy when the cold temperatures make outdoor activities too chilly. When Ohioans stay indoors more and move less often, they may suffer from cabin fever. The Lorain County General Health District offers 3 ways to cure cabin fever—all at no cost!

  1. Go Noodle is a no-cost app that gets kids up and moving, whether in the classroom or in the living room. Catchy songs and fun dances help kids of all ages move more so they can learn better, burn energy, and live healthy.
  2. FitWalks is a no-cost group walking program that gives people of all ages a chance to increase their steps and to get social. FitWalks happen weekly at 5:30 p.m. at Splash Zone in Oberlin on Mondays, and at 5:30 p.m. at Mercy Health & Recreation Center in Amherst on Thursdays.
  3. United We Sweat gives people access to fitness events and classes across Lorain County at no cost. The schedule changes monthly and has options for every skill level.
