Lorain County Public Health can conduct lead-based paint inspections, lead risk assessments, and final clearance examinations following HUD protocols. See the chart below for a description of these services and the cost. To request services, click here: Lead-Based Paint Program Services and Fees.
Lead-based paint inspection & lead risk assessment
Following HUD protocols, this service will combine a lead inspection (surface-by-surface investigation of all painted surfaces – interior and exterior) with a lead risk assessment (onsite investigation for lead-based paint hazards). A visual assessment, the use of a portable X-ray fluorescent (XRF) analyzer, and targeted environmental sampling will be performed. These services will provide an inventory of the status of the painted surfaces as well as identifying and describing the severity of lead hazards.
Lead risk assessment
Following HUD protocols, this is an onsite investigation of a residential building for leadbased paint hazards. This service will determine the existence, nature, severity, and location of lead-based hazards by utilizing a portable X-ray fluorescent (XRF) analyzer and targeted environmental sampling. A report will provide a status of the painted surfaces that are either in fair or poor condition and options for corrective actions.
Final clearance examination
Following HUD protocols, this service will combine a visual assessment along with environmental sampling used to determine that no lead-based paint hazards remain in an area after the completion of the scope of work.
