Extreme Cold + Where to Keep Warm

Posted on: December 28, 2017

Extreme cold winter weather is a part of living in Ohio, so be prepared when the cold comes so you don’t end up with frostbite, hypothermia, or other life-threatening conditions.

Here are some practical ways to keep warm against extreme cold.

- Dress in layers—air trapped between layers acts as extra insulation
- Drink plenty of water—if you’re dehydrated you’re more likely to get frostbite
- Prepare—have a backup supply of medications and food so you don’t have to go out in the cold
- Be a good neighbor—call neighbors and loved ones to be sure they have food, water, and a cleared walkway outside

If you need assistance finding a warming shelter, or help with your heat, dial 2-1-1 for resources, or check here http://www.211lorain.org/
