Lorain County Drug Repository Prescription Assistance ProgramThe Lorain County Drug Repository Prescription Assistance program was created in 2007 in accordance with 2001-2002 Ohio General Assembly’s House Bill Number 221, also known as “Karon’s Law.” The bill allowed for the creation of a warehouse to accept and distribute donated prescription drugs to individuals in need who meet eligibility criteria. Program financial assistance was provided by the Community Foundation of Greater Lorain County. The Lorain County Drug Repository’s creation was a cooperative effort between the following agencies:
The Drug Repository, housed in Buderer Drug Company, receives unused prescription drugs from nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Medical providers determine patient eligibility and inform Buderer Drug Company and the Lorain County General Health District of new patients to the program. The prescriptions drugs are then distributed to the patient. The goal of the program is to use donated prescription drugs to benefit individuals who are in need and have limited or no prescription drug coverage.
