The Environmental Health Division of the Lorain County General Health District fulfills that part of the agencies public health mission concerned with controlling environmental conditions, both natural and man-made, to protect human health and well being. We derive our authority from state statutes to perform this function and act as an arm of the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. We accomplish our mission through risk assessment, policy development, monitoring, inspections, consultation, education, and enforcement of regulations. These regulations have been adopted by the State Legislature, the Public Health Council of the State of Ohio, or by the Board of Health and are intended to protect the food we eat, the water we drink and the places where we live, play, and work. While protecting human health is our primary goal, we also work with many other agencies and organizations whose work helps protect and enhance environmental quality in our health district. Our services are divided into 5 sections. Food Protection
Public Health and Safety
