West Nile Virus Infection Update - June 24, 2008

6/26 -- As of June 24, 2008, thirteen human cases of West Nile Virus have been confirmed throughout the United States. Human cases have been reported in Arizona, California, Mississippi, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Animal, bird, or mosquito West Nile Virus infections have been reported to CDC ArboNET from the following states in 2008: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.

Updated Information Regarding Insect Repellents

6/10 -- Repellents are an important tool to assist people in protecting themselves from mosquito-borne diseases. CDC recommends the use of products containing active ingredients which have been registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use as repellents applied to skin and clothing. EPA registration of repellent active ingredients indicates the materials have been reviewed and approved for efficacy and human safety when applied according to the instructions on the label.

5/14 -- As of May 6, 2008, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that there have been four confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in humans in Arizona, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
