Now Accepting Physical Activity Mini Grant Applications for Schools
Live Healthy Lorain County Partners Coordinated School Health workgroup is offering Mini Grants to encourage more physical activity in Lorain County schools through environmental systems change. Committed to fostering better learning environments, steps toward increasing physical activity in schools must be taken. The available physical activity mini grants are a great way to get students and teachers focused on moving more in an effort to learn more.
Grant proposals should include creative ways to integrate physical activity into the school environment, and show collaboration and connection with the school wellness plan and/or coordinated school health action plan.
Mini grants can be used for one of the following physical activity initiatives and resource toolkits:
1. Safe walking route mapping and pedometer walking promotion
2. Fitness initiatives using DDR or Wii Fit equipment
3. FitnessGram fitness assessment and reporting program, www.fitnessgram.net/home
This opportunity is open to Lorain County schools only, one application per building. Up to 12 schools will be funded with a maximum of $500 per grant request. Equipment/material will be distributed in May 2010 to be used between September 1 and November 19, 2010.
Deadline for application submission is March 15, 2010.
The physical activity mini grants are funded by the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and administered by the Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Health Promotion and Risk Reduction, Creating Healthy Communities Program through the Lorain County General Health District.
